The Orhei Constructed Wetland treatment plant, the biggest secondary treatment entirely based on CWs in the world

The municipal centralised treatment plant (a classic activated sludge technology) for the wastewater produced by the municipality of Jesi (Ancona province – central Italy) has been upgraded in the year 2002, with the realisation of a new “nitrification-denitrification” compartment and a hybrid Constructed Wetland as polishing stage.

Llanfair PG: A 440 m2, vertical flow reed bed treating 55m3/d of domestic effluent from a residential education centre.

Bauduen : a 2-stage Vertical FLow  reed bed filter (French Design) for the treatment of domestic effluent from a village with variable population. A UV tertiary treatment ensures pathogens removal for protection of the bathing area in the lake downstream.

Aldbrough: A 210 m2, vertical flow bed, treating 14 m3/d of methanol loaded industrial effluent from a gas storage plant.

Hollange : a 432 m², vertical flow reed bed (French system) plus a 288 m² second stage unsaturated vertical flow filter, and a 1200 m² vegetated polishing zone treating 102 m3/d of domestic effluent.

In 2001, IRIDRA managed the design of a constructed wetlands system for the wine-producing firm “Tenuta dell’Ornellaia”, Leghorn, Italy. The system consists of vertical flow constructed wetlands (SFS-v) as a first stage followed by a second SFS-h stage with recirculation to the first stage and then by a single FWS. It treats wastewater from the firm, which allows water to be reused for irrigation
