Naturally Wallace Consulting (formerly North American Wetland Engineering) is recognized as the world leader in the management of unique and complex wastewater streams using treatment wetlands. We are a professional engineering firm with a focus on teaming with partners who are facing environmental challenges in water and wastewater treatment. Our President, Scott Wallace, was the co-author of Treatment Wetlands, Second Edition (2009), known as the definitive textbook on wetland treatment systems and Small-Scale Constructed Wetland Treatment Systems (2006).

Qualifications of Key Personnel

Scott Wallace, P.E.
Scott Wallace is a globally-recognized leader in the design of ecological systems including treatment wetlands. The author of papers in numerous technical and environmental publications, Mr. Wallace has authored one Canadian and four U.S. patents for wastewater treatment processes including Forced Bed Aeration™. He is the co-author of Treatment Wetlands, Second Edition, the definitive textbook on wetland treatment systems. Mr. Wallace holds a Bachelor of Civil Engineering and a Master's Degree in Environmental Engineering, both from the University of Iowa.

With extensive experience in both municipal and industrial wastewater treatment, Mr. Wallace currently leads Naturally Wallace Consulting, a private consultancy offering design and advisory services to clients with unique and complex environmental challenges. He was founding partner of North American Wetland Engineering (NAWE), now Naturally Wallace Consulting. Scott was also Principal Investigator for Small-Scale Constructed Wetland Treatment Systems: Feasibility Design Criteria and O&M Requirements on behalf of the Water Environment Research Foundation (WERF). He has designed more than 250 wastewater treatment systems for municipal, commercial and industrial clients including large-scale wetlands for the oil industry. Scott is a registered professional engineer in 23 states, and has completed projects in 11 different countries.

Wallace and his team were awarded the 2009 Diamond Award for Engineering Excellence in Water Resources from the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) for his design of a natural treatment system to treat spent deicing fluid at Buffalo International Airport in Buffalo, New York. They also received the 2005 Grand Award for Engineering Excellence from (ACEC) for his design of a hydrocarbon remediation wetland for British Petroleum in Casper, Wyoming.
