The town of Roussillon had to replace their old trickling filter to treat the wastewater of the village, with a very important tourist population in the summer, in a very sensitive environment. No electricity on site.
Two stage reed bed filters, fed by gravity flow siphons, which don't need electricity. There is no primary treatment, the raw, only manually coarse screened sewage is fed directly on the first stage beds
The reed beds blend completly into the valley, which is visited by many tourists. Since it was put into operation , the plant has been treating an average pollution load of 1320 p.e. in the high summer season and of 550 p.e. in the low winter season. The beds were desludged for the first time in september 2011, after 13 years of operation.
